Simple Tips for Taking Care of Your Health

Our modern lifestyle makes it a little harder for us to live a healthy lifestyle. Many of us spend hours in the office, rush home in too much traffic and eat a processed but easy to prepare meal while staring at a screen. We give little consideration to our health as we’re mostly distracted by deadlines or social media. I have a feeling that our generation will be the first to live less time than our parents. It’s a scary thought! There are simple tips you can use in your every day life to improve your health, your wellbeing and your energy levels. Here are my favourite wellbeing tips:

1.Drink More Water

In Guatemala, when someone says they want ‘water’ to drink in Spanish, they’ll be offered a choice of Coke, Pepsi, Fanta and so on. That’s actually not water! While there’s definitely some water in the drink, it’s made of tons of sugar and flavourings. When I suggest you drink more water, I mean pure, clean water that’s going to nourish your cells and ensure you’re properly hydrated. Aim for the standard 8 glasses a day and you will feel better in no time.

2. Cut Out the Sugar

Sugar is in everything these days! It’s affecting our teeth and our waist bands. As a general rule, most of us need to consume less sugar in our diet. If you’re craving something sweet, it’s much better to have a piece of fruit than a candy bar. Consider having less sugar in your coffee or avoiding processed drinks and your body will feel much better for it – and look better too.

3. Make Sure Your Business is in Order

Depending on where you live, your health insurance needs will vary. This is a broad topic that is best answered by location specific information. However, if you’re a UK resident who’s planning on moving elsewhere in Europe, then I highly suggest you look into the EHIC card. EHIC : European Health Insurance Card is a card that provides a low cost solution to health care for UK residents. It’s important to ensure that your card is valid and on you at any time, as you will be required to present a valid card in order to receive discounted or free health care. If you’re traveling somewhere where you are not entitled to health care, it’s a good idea to ensure that you have private travel insurance that will cover any health issues.

4. Get Active

Exercise is one of the best ways to enhance your health and your mood. If you’re like me, you might find running too high impact on your knee joints, but don’t worry there are a range of other sporting activities you can try. Yoga is great for all ages and can surprisingly be a tough work out. Likewise, weight lifting in the gym is a great option, too. The most important thing is to find something you enjoy so you can be consistent with it.
