Put your head in the clouds
Whether they’re white and fluffy or dark and looming, clouds are magical things that appeal to our sense of imagination. But how much do you really know about the clusters of condensed water vapor that live in our sky? Read up on the different types of clouds below, then head outside and do some cloud-spotting!
Cirrus:
High wispy clouds with curled up ends.
Cirrocumulus:
High clouds that are puffy and patchy.
Cirrostratus:
High clouds that appear in thin sheets.
Altocumulus:
Mid-level clouds that are small and patchy.
Altostratus:
Mid-level clouds that are thin and uniform.
Cumulus:
Low, puffy clouds with a popcorn-like appearance.
Stratocumulus:
Low clouds that are broad and flat and slightly puffy on top.
Stratus:
Low clouds that usually appear as an overcast deck.
