What's sharp, painful and down right scary? Needles! No one likes getting them, but every year many of us make the trip to the doctor to receive our shots. But what if we never had to get a needle ever again? What if there was some way that we could still get all our proper vaccinations without the painful pricks of needles?

Believe it or not, there is a way. These little miracle patches are called dissolving micro needle patches. The patches contain 100 tiny needles and by tiny I mean that they are almost invisible to the human eye! The needles only puncture the outer layer of the skin and do not enter the muscle like regular needles do. The needles then dissolve in to the skin releasing the vaccine with no pain at all! How awesome is this? Scientists all over are beginning to see the benefits of such a little patch. For example, a patch rather than a needle means there would be no more long lines at the hospital because people would be able to give themselves vaccines without medical training. Also, researchers are trying to make the dissolving micro needle patch available at pharmacies so you won’t even need to see your doctor. Not only that, but because the needles dissolve, the patches are easy to throw away leaving no sharp needles laying around. So there you have it folks, no more fear of needles and the painful sharpness. Just stick this patch on your skin and you’re good to go!

Questions to consider: do you think the dissolving micro needle patch is a good idea? Why or why not?

I agree! I hate getting needles but this would make things so much easier.

second thought I forgot how many needles I get every year.

Well I think the point of this new idea is to eliminate the pain factor that comes with getting needles. Yes, you are getting 100 needles rather than 1 but the needles are so small you can hardly even see them. So getting a lot of needles every year doesn't seem quite so bad. :)
